Trabuco Hills holds on and defeats Pacifica Christian 51-48 in semifinals of Beach Bash Tournament

Aryan Talle of Trabuco Hills defends Friday night as Timmy Bahadoor of Pacifica Christian passes the ball to Judah Brown.

Trabuco Hills boys basketball team held on to defeat Pacifica Christian 51-48 Friday night in the semifinals of the Beach Bash Tournament at Corona del Mar.

The Mustangs face Mater Dei in the championship game of the tournament Saturday at 4 p.m. at CdM.

Senior guard Kelvin Cabrera scored 20 points and hit six 3-pointers to lead the Mustangs (4-1). Solomon Davis scored 18 points for Pacifica Christian.

“The two things we focused on were no transition baskets for them and no offensive boards and we did a really good job in both areas,” said Trabuco Hills Coach Sean Sullens. “I can’t say how proud I am of our guys. That’s why you coach is to put together a game plan and watch kids follow it, but also have the freedom to do their own stuff, shoot their longer shots, and they did it.”

Trabuco Hills made 12 3-pointers in the game, nine in the first half.

Trabuco Hills led 37-24 at halftime but Pacifica Christian (7-3) battled back in the fourth quarter and cut the lead to 51-48 on a 3-point basket by Timmy Bahadoor with 1:39 left.

But Trabuco Hills was able to hold on for the victory.
