Former Woodbridge standout Chase Bradley commits to play football at Sacred Heart University

Chase Bradley committed this week to play at Sacred Heart University.

Chase Bradley from Irvine has committed to continue his football career at North East Conference Division 1 Powerhouse Sacred Heart University in Connecticut, according to Dwight Tillman, assistant coach and linebackers coach at Sacred Heart.

Bradley, who went to Woodbridge High School, was a three year varsity football and baseball player, team captain for both squads and the 2017 Woodbridge male athlete of the year.

Bradley was in contact with his former coach at Woodbridge, Rick Gibson, who advised him to seek opinions from his family and do what was best for him in weighing three options. Gibson said he was honored to be asked.

“I know he’s excited, I’m as excited as he is,” Gibson said Wednesday. “He’s a hard working kid and he was the team captain for me for two years. He’s just a wonderful young man who worked his tail off to get to where he’s going right now.

“I’m very excited for he and his family and know that Sacred Heart has got themselves quite a football player.”

After Woodbridge, Bradley weighed college offers and ultimately decided to play for the Gauchos at Saddleback College in Mission Viejo.

Originally a linebacker, Bradley converted to the defensive end position his freshman year and immediately moved into the playing rotation.

By the start of his sophomore year he had earned the starting strong side defensive end spot. A strong pass rusher with a nose for the ball Bradley led the defensive line in tackles his sophomore year, capping the season the Patriotic Bowl Defensive MVP Award.

Sacred Heart earned a share of the NEC top spot in 2018, tying Duquesne with identical 5-1 conference records. Sacred Heart is returning the majority of last year’s offense and with Bradley’s addition on the defensive line is poised for a run for the outright 2019 NEC Title, according to Tillman.
