The annual Dan Selway Youth Football Camp wrapped up Wednesday at Lake Forest Sports Park after three days.
“We had 65 very talented campers that came from all over Southern California, second through eighth grade split up into different groups for training, skill development and fun,” said Selway, the offensive coordinator for the Capistrano Valley High School varsity football team.
“We had coaches from six different high schools from California come together and coach camp, speed and agility (with) Erics Clark of (CSPAT), and current college and local high school players as counselors. It was a lot of fun.”
Capistrano Valley head football coach Sean Curtis was a guest speaker.
“Camp was a big emphasis on skill development for quarterbacks and wide receivers, speed and agility and leadership,” said Selway, a former Northwood High star quarterback and assistant coach. “Campers did two sessions of sport specific yoga with Rob Eyler who trains some NFL players.
“The skill level of some of the youth athletes is amazing. The three big awards at camp were for leadership, camp accuracy and the top wide receiver award. This is the sixth camp we have done and it’s a blast, especially after taking a pause since the summer of 2019 camp.”
