After an exciting first round in the CIF baseball playoffs, Orange County squads compete in the second round on Tuesday.

Most of the games are scheduled for 3:15 p.m.

At Irvine High, the Vaqueros, who notched their first CIF playoff victory since 2013 Friday defeating Rancho Alamitos 8-3, will host Nogales.

“Nogales looks like an extremely solid team,” said Irvine Coach Gabriel Cota. “Their numbers offensively are as good as you see out there. As a team they are hitting .332 so you have to respect that they are a team that will give you a great game.

“As always, the key will be managing our emotions and playing the game to the best of our ability. We feel, as a team, if we play our best game we can compete with anyone. Our guys are excited for the opportunity to continue to play and the chance to continue their season.”

The winner advances into the quarterfinal round against the winner of the Sonora-Moreno Valley game being played at Moreno Valley. Sonora is the top seeded squad in the division.

There are some other games around the county with lots of interest.

No. 2 seeded Cypress travels to Capistrano Valley in a second round Division 1 game which is expected to attract a big crowd.

Cypress Coach John Weber said it’s the first time in his 14 year coaching career that he will lead a team in a game at Capo Valley.
