Hickman leads Ocean View past Los Amigos 41-7 in nonleague game

Ocean View’s senior quarterback Noah Hickman takes off on a run and avoids the pressure from the Los Amigos defense.

Noah Hickman tossed three touchdown passes and ran for a score as Ocean View cruised to a 41-7 nonleague victory over Los Amigos in a nonleague football game Thursday evening at Garden Grove High.

It was the second consecutive season the Seahawks have beaten the Lobos (1-1).

Hickman, a senior quarterback, threw TD passes of six, 30 and 29 yards all to wide receiver Naeco Logan, who caught a career-high three touchdown passes.

“It’s amazing, I’ve only scored two touchdowns combined until this game,” said Logan, who also had an interception in the second half.  “I’ve never did anything sort of like this. I got to give credit to my OLine, QB and the other receivers. We have a strong receiving corps and this could have happened randomly to anyone of us.”

Hickman completed nine of 10 passes for 149 yards and scored on a 4-yard TD run.

“We pushed hard and everything started to open up for us,” Hickman added.

The Seahawks (1-0) took the opening kickoff and marched 60 yards in eight plays to take a 7-0 lead.  Hickman raced in from four yards for the score. The drive was aided by a costly Los Amigos personal foul penalty that gave the Seahawks a first down in Lobos’ territory.

Ocean View’s defense held on the ensuing series and tackled the Los Amigos punter after he dropped the ball on a fourth down punt attempt at the Lobos 19. However, the Seahawks were unable to take advantage of the miscue as middle linebacker Gabriel Langinbelik stopped Rodrigo Adame short of a first down following a pass reception on fourth down.

Ocean View upped its lead to 14-0 late in the opening quarter on a 19-yard TD run by Will Earthman. The senior wide receiver also caught five passes for 79 yards.

Los Amigos’ offense finally got on track early in the second quarter as they put together an impressive 15 play, 89-yard scoring drive. Brian Pacheco capped the drive with a 2-yard scoring run with 1:39 left in the half.

But the Seahawks rallied late in the half and moved 62 yards in six plays to take a 20-7 halftime lead. Hickman tossed a 6-yard TD pass to Logan with five seconds remaining in the half to give Ocean View a double-digit lead at the break.

Hickman added two more touchdown passes in the second half and Dezmond Doxey (93 yards rushing) scored on a 42-yard TD run.

The Seahawks defense led by Daniel Blackmore and Lucio Silva forced three turnovers and were dominant throughout the game.

“It was exciting to see how well our guys played, especially on both sides of the line,” said Ocean View Coach Luis Nunez. “It was their first varsity start for a lot of them and they’ve earned the right to be there.”

After winning last week’s opener against Dana Hills, Lobos coach Carl Agnew said his players were not focused.

“I think we were too satisfied with last week’s win, said Agnew. “Guys were late for practice this week and we weren’t focused. This is a reality check.”

Los Amigos quarterback Brandon Tinoco led the Lobos by completing 15 passes for 151 yards.
