Coach Mark Hill’s Esperanza team won the consolation title Saturday.
Esperanza’s boys basketball team defeated Northwood 53-41 to win the consolation championship at the Tustin Classic Saturday.
The Aztecs (10-9) started fast and took a 16-4 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Northwood cut the lead to 21-17 at halftime, but the Aztecs went on an 8-0 run at the start of the third quarter and led 36-24 after three quarters.
“Obviously I was happy with how we started the game but disappointed with that second quarter,” said Esperanza Coach Mark Hill. “However, in a week where you play four games in four days there will inevitably some lapses somewhere. Overall I was very pleased with what we accomplished this week.”
Trevor Geiger led the Aztecs in scoring with 21 points including three 3-pointers. Josh Noble had 10 points and Jason Francis with seven points.
Northwood (8-9) was led by Amit Flint with 13 points.
