A familiar coach was back on the sidelines at Irvine Stadium Saturday.
Rick Curtis, who used to coach at Northwood, Irvine and University, was leading his Capistrano Valley Christian team in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes South Coast Challenge at Irvine Stadium.

Curtis, who also had a stint at Santa Margarita, is entering his 42nd season of coaching and his third at Capo Valley Christian, where he is also the athletic director.
“There were some great memories here,” Curtis said.
“We had a good day; we finished strong,” Curtis said. “We lost two really close ones in the morning to Verbum Dei and Crean Lutheran, but then we came back in the afternoon and won two (over Western Christian) and Verbum Dei, which felt really good.”
Curtis said he was pleased with the play of Trey Henry, Seth Yu and Simeon Martin.
