Woodbridge finishes ahead of Northwood to capture title at PCL boys track and field finals

Woodbridge High’s boys track and field team held off a challenge from Northwood to take first place at the Pacific Coast League finals Friday night at Portola.

The Warriors finished with 146 points, Northwood was second with 106 points and Beckman third with 92 points.

Woodbridge’s Chris Cooper had a great meet, winning the 400 meter dash in a time of 49.49. Teammate Nick Felix was second in 50.58.

Cooper also won the 200 meter dash, winning in a time of 22.56. Irvine’s Ethan Shank was second in 22.77 and Isaac Yang of Northwood was third in 22.81.

Woodbridge’s Drake Nguyen won the 100 meter dash with a time of 11:01. Irvine’s Ethan Shank was second in 11.07 and June Park of Woodbridge was third in 11.34.

Woodbridge also had a strong performance in the boys 3,200 run. Brett Knutson took first in 9:43.53, teammates Caleb Terefe finished second in 9:45.80 and Aravind Ravikumar was third in 9:48.88.

Woodbridge also took first in the 4×400 meter relay, winning in a time of 3:26.30. Nick Felix, Nguyen, Ziad Saadeldin and Cooper teamed up to win the relay.

Nguyen also took first in the long jump with a mark of 23-05. Irvine’s Jacob Haley was second in 22-11.

Some other highlights:

Irvine took first in the 4×100 meter relay in a time of 42.48. The team consisted of Shank, Mark O’Hannigan, Kyler Doverspike and Haley.

Woodbridge was second in 43.12.

Beckman’s Joshua Schuld took first in the 1,600 meter run in a time of 4:24.54. Ryan Welton of Woodbridge was second in 4:27.74.

Haley of Irvine took first place in the 110 meter hurdles in a time of 15.00. James Lim of Beckman was second in 15.61 and Tyler Winchester of Northwood was third in 15.73.

Justin Larson of Northwood was first in the 800 meter run in a time of 1:56.87. O’Hannigan of Irvine was second in 1:58.68 and Adam Gish of University was third in 1:58.98.

Irvine’s Haley also took first in the 300 meter hurdles in a time of 40.10. Shek Kam of Woodbridge was second in 40.22 and Taylor Peterson of Irvine third in 41.63.

Myles Carter of Northwood was first in the triple jump (46-03.50). Dylan Fox of Irvine was second (42-02).

Eric Otuvaka was first in the discus (140-04) and Samuel Gotta of Portola was first in the shot put (48.09.50).
