It’s a memorable evening for Woodbridge girls who capture title at PCL swim championships

Woodbridge High’s girls swim team captured the Pacific Coast League championships Friday winning seven individual league titles and every relay in both the championship final heats and the consolation final heats, according to James Hickson, Woodbridge girls swim coach.

Woodbridge wound up with 517 points. Northwood was second with 391 points, Irvine third with 340 and University fourth with 288. Beckman was fifth with 273 and Portola sixth with 199.

Woodbridge swimmers who captured individual league titles in their events were freshman Phoebe Yeh in the 200 yard freestyle (1:52.07) and 100 yard freestyle (51.12), senior Juliana Witting in the 50 yard freestyle (24.14) and the 100 yard breaststroke (1:05.21), senior Amanda Anderson in the 200 yard individual medley (2:05.21) and senior Jamie Yeh in the 100 yard butterfly (55.28) and 100 yard backstroke (54.64).

Relay who captured a PCL title for the Warriors were the 200 yard medley relay team of Yeh, Witting, Anderson and Melodie Pugar (1:46.98), the 200 yard freestyle relay team of Phoebe Yeh, Melodie Pugar, Kate Cho and Witting (1:37.60), and the 400 yard freestyle relay team of Jamie Yeh, Kate Cho, Phoebe Yeh and Amanda Anderson (3:32.52).

Some other highlights of the meet held at Irvine High:

University’s Alexandra Lindenberg took first in the 500 yard freestyle in a time of 5:15.06. Gabi Taylor of Portola was second in 5:17.58 and Allyson Kusuma of Irvine was third in 5:20.89.

Northwood took second in the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:46.98. The relay team consisted of Avery Liu, Corina Lee, Carolyn Nguyen and Amanda Hsieh.

Northwood’s Nguyen was also second in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:56.59.

Amanda Hsieh of Northwood was second in the 200 IM with a time of 2:05.23. Aurora Duncan of Irvine was third in 2:10.05.

Camille Ross of Irvine was second in the 100 yard butterfly in a time of 56.76. Nguyen of Northwood was third in 57.00.

Hsieh of Northwood was second in the 100 yard freestyle in a time of 51.56 while Olivia Chen of Northwood was third in 54.06.
