University High soccer star Mollie Kessler has committed to play soccer for the University of Chicago.

On Friday University athletic secretary Meredith Kohl said school officials hope to be able to have an on-campus signing event for Kessler and other athletes when conditions improve. Six University High athletes signed in November, but there was no on-campus ceremony due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“I’m looking forward to being a part of an extremely rigorous academic environment while also representing my school on the soccer field,” Kessler said in comments provided by the University High athletic department. “I hope to excel as a student and a player while also enjoying all of the amazing programs UChicago has to offer.

“What I love about the soccer team at UChicago is that they prioritize academics and the they make sure the players are succeeding in the classroom before they step onto the field. I have been balancing sports and school my whole life and I am confident that I will continue to find this balance in college.

I attribute my success to my parents, teachers and coaches who have constantly supported me and believed in my goals. The University of Chicago has been my dream school since my sophomore year and I think my determination and work ethic is ultimately what allowed me to achieve this dream.”
