Tustin gears up for league showdown with Cypress, defeating Pacifica

Tustin High’s girls volleyball team, ranked No. 1 in the CIF Division 5, won its third Empire League match in a row Tuesday defeating Pacifica in three sets.

The Tillers (19-1 overall) are tied for first place in the league with Cypress and host the Centurions Thursday at 4 p.m. in an early season showdown.

Tustin defeated Pacifica 25-22, 25-15, 27-25 on Tuesday.

“It was a battle, Pacifica is a tough serving team,” said Coach Joanna Lane. “We battled our way through it though.” 

Ava McInnes led Tustin with 24 kills, Alex Cox had 10 kills and Paige Cutwright six kills.

Jade Croopnick recorded four aces, and Saira Fuentes #17 serve received at a 2.5 which Lane said is an “excellent stat.”

Tustin also defeated Crean Lutheran on Thursday in four sets.

The scores were 25-17, 25-13, 18-25, 25-19.

McInnes had 18 kills with just five errors and also had five serving aces and 22 digs, Lane said.

Cutwright had eight kills and Cox 20 digs. Croopnick had six aces and six digs.
