Drew Ramirez will be weighing his options in the coming months.
Two Santa Ana High School football players have made commitments to play Division 1 college football and a third, Drew Ramirez, is weighing his options and expects to make a decision soon.
Ramirez, a first team All-CIF Division 8 player, said Tuesday night he is not ready to commit but is looking at a number of colleges.
Santa Ana’s Patrick McMorris (San Diego State) and Nick Larriva (Idaho State) have made commitments and will sign their offical letters of intent on Wednesday, Coach Charlie TeGantvoort confirmed Tuesday.
Ramirez said after the team banquet Tuesday he has offers from Columbia, Cornell, University of San Diego, University of Chicago and “I got preferred walk-on to Cal and Stanford.”
Ramirez, a first team All-CIF player, said he is being recruited as a defensive back.
“I’ll make my decision in late March or mid-March,” Ramirez said. “I’m leaning towards Pac 12: Cal or Stanford but Ivy Leagues are still a great option.”
Ramirez was named the co-MVP of the Santa Ana team which reached the CIF Division 8 semifinals before losing to Kaiser. McMorris was named the Saints other co-MVP.
Larriva was named the defensive MVP and quarterback Julian Gomez was named the offensive MVP.
“It was a great night, we have great coaches who take their time to put this on,” Ramirez said.
Ramirez is also on the Saints basketball team which will host Tarbut V’ Torah Saturday at 8:30 p.m. in the opening round of the CIF 5AA basketball playoffs.
