University High officials announced Wednesday that Fidel Vargas has been named the school’s new varsity girls basketball.
“Coach Vargas served as our JV girls coach during the 2018-2019 season,” said Athletic Director Tom Shrake.
“Prior to that, he was the head of basketball operations at Brethren Christian High School, coaching both the boys and girls Basketball teams. Coach Vargas brings a wealth of experience and expertise, having also coached with a number of AAU teams since 2006.”
Vargas replaces long-time coach Nicole Bradshaw who stepped down after the season to spend more time with her family. She is remaining on as a teacher at University.
“Coach Vargas has shown that he is a great fit at University High School,” Shrake added. “His coaching style, core values, and commitment to the development of our student athletes are consistent with the vision at University High School.
“Coach Vargas is also a full-time personal basketball trainer and coach. He and his wife Olivia have been married for 19 years and have two children, Isaiah and Ava.”
