Highlights: Portola opens with victory and University drops tournament game

Portola’s girls basketball team opened the season Monday with a victory while University dropped its opener.

Highlights:

Portola 53, Rancho Alamitos 29: The game was close before the Bulldogs pulled away in the third quarter. Freshman Moka Saiki led Portola with 16 points and seven steals and captain Allyson Taboyoyong scored 13 points and recorded five assists and seven steals.

Senior captain Maddy Noh had six points and 12 rebounds and senior captain center Donia Maymoun recorded 11 points and grabbed 16 rebounds. 

Chaparral 54, University 43: The Trojans dropped their opener in the Norco Tournament Monday night.

Aryn Press scored 17 points and Claire Kawata and Guilia Roy had 10 points each for the Trojans. Press also had 17 rebounds and Caitlin Hane had nine rebounds.
