OC Sports Zone: Community First

Cerritos College selected as site for CIF Division 1 football championship; here’s the semifinal schedule for OC teams

CIF officials announced on Monday that the CIF Division 1 football finals will be played at Falcon Stadium at Cerritos College in Norwalk on Friday, Nov. 23 at 7:30 p.m.

The game will be televised live by Fox Sports.

The 12,000-seat stadium is the home of Cerritos College. Falcon Stadium will also host the CIF State Football Championships in five divisions Dec. 7-8.

In Friday’s top-seeded St. John Bosco (12-0) faces Oaks Christian (12-0) at Oaks Christian and Mater Dei (10-2) hosts No. 2 Centennial (12-0) in the Division 1 semifinals at Santa Ana Stadium at 7 p.m.

CIF officials announced Tuesday the games will go on as scheduled. There were some concerns about the affect the Southern California wildfires might have. But the games are on, barring any additional problems.

It’s also an exciting week for a number of other Orange County squads.

Here’s the semifinal match-ups for OC teams:

In Division 3, Capistrano Valley (9-3) hosts Cajon (10-1) with the winner facing the Sierra Canyon (9-3) at Citrus Hill (12-0) winner in the finals.

In the Division 4 semifinals, top-seeded Corona del Mar (10-1-1) plays at Camarillo (11-1) Friday night. The winner faces the winner of the other semifinal between Villa Park (12-0) and Grace Brethren (10-2) in the finals. No. 2 seeded Villa Park is the home team for that game.

In Division 7, Valencia (11-1) hosts San Jacinto (11-1) Friday night with the winner facing the winner of the Northview (10-0) vs. Culver City (10-2) game next week in the finals.

In Division 8, third-seeded Santa Ana (10-2) plays at Kaiser of Fontana (11-1) at 7 p.m. and the winner of that game meets the winner of the Arcadia (8-2) at Alta Loma (8-4) game in the championship game Nov. 23.

In Division 9, Garden Grove (9-1) plays at San Gorgonio (9-3) with the winner facing the North Torrance (8-2) at Brea Olinda (7-5) winner.

In Division 11, Western (8-2) plays at Beaumont (8-4) with the winner playing the winner of the Hemet (7-4) at Peninsula (8-4) game in the finals.

In Division 12, No. 2 seeded Laguna Beach (10-2) plays at Artesia (9-3) at 7:30 p.m. with the winner facing the Xavier Prep (7-5) at Linfield Christian (11-1) winner next Friday night.

The locations for the other championship games is scheduled to be released on Monday, Nov. 19.
