It will only be the second game of the Pacific Coast League baseball season, but Tuesday’s match-up between Beckman and Irvine is shaping up to be an important one with the winner taking over the league lead.

The game starts at 3 p.m. at Irvine High.

Beckman (6-2, 1-0) is the defending league champion and favored to win this year’s title. The Patriots, coached by Kevin Lavalle, opened league play Friday with a 6-0 victory over Portola. (Please click here for a story and photos from that game)

Irvine is off to one of its best starts with a 6-1 record and Coach Gabriel Cota’s team is playing with confidence. The Vaqueros (1-0 in league) have the best overall record of any team in the league. Irvine opened up with a 2-1 victory over Woodbridge in nine innings on Friday.(Please click here for the game story and pictures of the Vaqueros vs. Warriors game)

Orginally rain was in the picture for Tuesday but as of Sunday afternoon, it looks like clear skies are forecast.

OC Sports Zone will have coverage of the game and reports of the other games along with others in Orange County. Northwood (0-4-1) meets Woodbridge (4-4, 0-1) at Ryan Lemmon Stadium and University (4-2, 1-0) is at Portola (3-4, 0-1) in other PCL games Tuesday.
