Just four weeks into the season, Aliso Niguel senior quarterback Kyle Kyckelhahn is making quite a name for himself.

The 6-4 QB passed for five touchdowns and 360 yards to lead the Wolverines to a 48-35 nonleague victory over Santa Ana Thursday night at Santa Ana Stadium. Earlier this year, he passed for 418 yards in a last second 36-35 victory over Sunny Hills and on the season, has thrown for 1,187 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Impressive, considering this is his first year calling signals as the starter. He was the Wolverines’ starting free safety last year.

“He’s a dude, he can do stuff,” said Aliso Niguel Coach Kurt Westling. “He has done a great job in becoming a great quarterback in a very limited amount of time. We emphasized him last year on defense. He was first team all-league at safety last year.

“He does a great job at extending plays but he might be one of the best quarterbacks about keeping his eyes downfield the whole time. A lot of quarterbacks scramble and move around, but they lose sight of the receivers.”

Kyckelhahn, who continues to play in the defensive secondary, credited his offensive line and receivers for the big numbers Thursday night and said he’s hoping the Wolverines keep winning.

“We want to go out and win the rest of the games,” he said.
