Runners set out at the start of Saturday’s 5K race in Woodbridge.
About 1,500 runners are competing in the 28th annual Irvine Half Marathon in Woodbridge.
The 1,000 runners in the half marathon started about 8 a.m. with about 500 runners in the 5K starting at 8:15 a.m.
Blake Fonda from Westmont College was the winner of the half marathon.
The weather cooperated too for the start of the races. There were clear skies although overnight rains wreaked havoc on the half marathon festival area, according to Jay Lyon, president of the Wooodbridge Boosters.
Rain began to fall at the close of the half marathon and is continuing through the festival which goes until about 1 p.m.
The event is one of four major fund-raisers for Woodbridge High Athletics.
