Corona del Mar, Portola and Pacifica baseball teams capture victories

Corona del Mar’s baseball team pushed across a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift the Sea Kings to a 6-5 non-league victory Tuesday over Esperanza at CdM.

CdM (6-1-1) rallied from a 5-0 deficit after the first inning and won the game when Kieran Sidebotham delivered a walk-off single driving in Luc Stuca, who was hit by a pitch and went to second base on a wild pitch.

Nick Rottler was 2 for 3 and had a home run for CdM. Jarrett Thompson came through on the mound with 6 2/3 innings of relief to earn the victory. He allowed five hits and struck out eight.

Also Tuesday:

Portola 3, University 1: The Bulldogs were playing their first Pacific Coast League varsity home game and came away with the victory, their first PCL varsity win.

Jamison King went six innings allowing one run and struck out 10.

Kaeden Foucart pitched one shutout inning and got the save.

Luke Shen had a two-run double to seal the victory for the Bulldogs (4-4, 1-1).

University (4-3, 1-1) was led by Andrew Keys who was 2 for 3 with an RBI.

Pacifica 3, Long Beach Millikan 2: Junior Nate Petrutis had walk-off two-run single to give the Mariners (5-5) the victory. Senior Jovanny Reyes allowed one run in seven innings and struck out seven to notch the win.
