Woodbridge and Portola hosting 17-team boys basketball tourney

Woodbridge and Portola boys basketball teams will be hosting a 17-team tournament beginning Monday and running through Saturday.

All the games are scheduled through the final day on Saturday.

“Portola and Woodbridge are hosting a 17 team tournament this week, that used to be the Irvine Classic, but we’ve changed the name to the Mariko Memorial Classic,” said Portola Coach Brian Smith.

The tournament is named after Mariko Fukuda, a big supporter of the Portola program who recently died, according to Portola Athletic Director Peter Abe. She was a family member of a couple of the players.

Monday, Nov. 29 at Portola:

6 p.m. Laguna Beach vs. Fairmont
7:30 p.m. Portola vs. Trabuco Hills

Tuesday, Nov. 30, at Portola:

3 p.m. Tesoro vs. Edison
4:30 p.m. Fairmont vs. Trabuco Hills
6 p.m. San Dieguito vs. Calvary Chapel
7:30 p.m. Portola vs. Chino Hills

Tuesday, Nov 30 at Woodbridge:

3 p.m. University vs. San Clemente
4:30 p.m. Los Osos vs. Vista Murrieta
6 p.m. South Torrance vs. Colony
7:30 p.m. Woodbridge vs Huntington Beach

Wednesday, Dec. 1 at Woodbridge:
