Steve Hindman has resigned for personal reasons after three seasons as University High School’s varsity baseball coach, Athletic Director Tom Shrake said Tuesday.
“He will be tough to replace,” Shrake said. “We are still currently accepting applications and interviewing. The position is open until filled but we would like to get our new head coach in place as quickly as possible.”
The Trojans were 9-18-1 overall and 7-11 in the Pacific Coast League last season.
“I enjoyed my time as head baseball coach at Uni; the decision to leave was not an easy one,” Hindman said Tuesday. “Last summer my wife and I bought a house in North OC and moved into a community closer to our family and friends. Since I didn’t work on campus at Uni, I was being stretched between three communities and didn’t feel I was fulfilling my commitments as a father, educator and coach.Â
“I do not currently have a plan coaching wise. I want to pursue new opportunities to build or expand a successful baseball program closer to home in North OC. I look forward to spending more time with my family and creating baseball memories with my next team, wherever may be.”
It was Hindman’s first head coaching job. He had been an assistant coach at Tustin High School and also had stints at Loyola High School in Los Angeles and Valley Christian in Cerritos.
