University’s first year baseball coach Steve Hindman has started up the Uni Coaches Challenge to communicate with his players, who like many others, have seen their seasons put on hold.
“The Uni Coaches Challenge is just my way to hold the players accountable for what they should be doing minimum on a daily basis,” Hindman said in an Email Thursday.
“I know they are starting a new challenge with doing the distance learning.Â
I wanted the players to be able to challenge each other to better themselves. I feel that we started to build a healthy and competitive culture. I really loved the way this team was coming together and was starting to understand each other as teammates and individuals.Â
“I know every coach has their way of communicating to the players. Mine was done through social media. High schoolers love their social media do why not take advantage of it. There will be a challenge for the players every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Each challenge will last two days each, giving them Sundays off which is a CIF rule anyway.”
Hindman said he has another way to communicate.
“I also have a group text going with the coaches and players to all communicate,” he said. “I have told the players that they can ask me questions or send me videos of what they are doing and I can comment on them as well. Plus baseball is a sixth period class and this is what they are assigned to do, us coaches were just trying to find a way to make it as fun as possible.”
