Coach Rich Boyce will lead his Edison Chargers in the Gary Raya Classic next week.
The annual Gary Raya SoCal Elite boys basketball tournament has dropped from its traditional 16-team format to a 10-team field but the event still has quality teams in it beginning Monday, Dec. 10 at high schools in Irvine and Placentia
The teams are grouped into three pools.
Pool A includes Edison, San Clemente and University, pool B is Corona del Mar, El Dorado and Woodbridge, pool C is Esperanza, JSerra, Northwood and Tesoro. Irvine is not in the tournament this year.
Monday, Dec. 10:
At El Dorado: Edison vs. San Clemente, 5:30 p.m.; Corona del Mar vs. El Dorado, 7 p.m.
Tuesday, Dec. 11:
At Woodbridge: Edison vs. University, 5:30 p.m.; El Dorado vs. Woodbridge, 7 p.m.
At Northwood: Esperanza vs. JSerra, 5:30 p.m.; Northwood vs. Tesoro, 7 p.m.
Wednesday, Dec. 12:
At University: Corona del Mar vs. Woodbridge, 5:30 p.m.; San Clemente vs. University, 7 p.m.
At Northwood: Tesoro vs. Esperanza, 5:30 p.m.; JSerra vs. Northwood, 7 p.m.
The tournament continues with semifinal round games on Friday, Dec. 14 and then the championship on Saturday, Dec. 15 at 6:15 p.m. at Woodbridge. Five games will be held at Woodridge on the final day starting at noon.
