Segerstrom High School’s baseball team wrapped up second place in the Golden West League with a 3-2 victory over Garden Grove Thursday.
“It was a great day yesterday for Segerstrom baseball,” said Coach Erasmo Ramirez. “We honored our 12 seniors for their work, their effort, and their commitment to our school and program. Then we grinded out a 3-2 victory over Garden Grove to secure second place in a tough Golden West League and a CIF playoff berth.”
Elyaz Vejar and Nick Padilla had two hits each for Segerstrom (13-13, 6-4).
“Adrian Villegas and Nic Landeros-Sosa, for the second week in a row, combined for the outstanding work on the mound,” Ramirez said. “The CIF bracket will be announced Sunday morning.
“Our coaching staff is proud of these young men. Every year, the goal is to compete for a league title and to get the opportunity to play in the post season. They put in a lot of work and we demand a lot out of our student-athletes, both on and off the field. That being said, this school year was very difficult on many levels. And they did a good job persevering through it all and getting our program into the CIF playoffs. We’re looking forward to it.”
