OC Sports Zone: Community First

CIF PLAYOFFS: Crean Lutheran, Foothill, JSerra, Servite and Costa Mesa advance: highlights and all OC scores

CREAN LUTHERAN 56, SILVERADO 30: The top-seeded Saints won their second game in the CIF 2A playoffs on the road. Koat Keat had 14 points, 12 rebounds and five assists, Michael Birket had 14 points and seven rebounds, Jack Fairchild had eight points and two assists and James Agany had eight points.

Crean Lutheran will be home on Tuesday in the quarterfinals against Culver City, which defeated Hillcrest 86-61.

Capo Valley Christian, number two seeded in 2A, also won on Friday, defeating San Marcos 65-48.

The Saints (15-2) opened the playoffs Wednsday with a 79-61 victory over Troy. Click here for pictures of that game.

FOOTHILL 43, BREA OLINDA 34: The Knights were led to a victory in a second round CIF 3AA playoff game by Cruz Billings, who had 12 points and Jake Horton and Carlo Billings who scored eight points each.

JSERRA 65, SANTA CLARITA CHRISTIAN 56: The Lions (14-12) were led by Isaac Peralta who scored 27 points and Robert Diaz who had 12 points.

COSTA MESA 69, HAWTHORNE 55: The Mustangs advanced to the quarterfinal round of the CIF 5A playoffs. Gio Quero led Costa Mesa with 20 points and four assits. Nathan Shipper had 18 points and Blake Wolf had 13 points and eight rebounds.

SERVITE 71, ALISO NIGUEL 69 (Overtime); Andrew Cook scored 40 points including a last second 3-pointer to send the game into overtime for the Friars in the second round 1A playoff game. Cook became the all-time record holder for most points in a season, 608, surpassing the 597 by Garret Love in 2004, according to Servite athletic officials. Servite is 16-13.

WEST RANCH 65, BECKMAN 62: The Patriots were led by Dowon Kim who had 19 points and Jake Morrison, who had 14 points. Ethan Bozzo added 14 points in the 2A playoff game.

West Ranch (12-0) was led by Cory Cofeld who had 22 points.

“It was an honor to coach these young men this year,” said Beckman Coach John Goins. “We had a lot of things to overcome, yet they stayed focused and together all the way. We knew what we had this year and we were still improving with each game, and us being tied with West Ranch with 48 seconds left is evident of what we could bring this year. I just wish that the boys could have had a full year to meet their potential.”

DAMIEN 55, MATER DEI 51: The No. 3-seeded Monarchs lost at home in the first round of pool play to No. 6 Damien in the open division playoffs. Harrison Hornery scored 24 points, grabbed nine rebounds and had four assists and Nick Davidson had 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Monarchs. Mater Dei continues pool play Tuesday at home vs. Harvard Westlake.

AGBU 48, SANTA ANA 42: Santa Ana, which notched one playoff victory, lost on the road Friday night in the second round of the CIF 5A playoffs. Xavier Valdovinos led the Saints with 14 points and four 3-pointers. Deaven Peres added 11 points for Santa Ana which finished 8-8 overall.

ST. PAUL 57, WOODBRIDGE 43: The Warriors lost their second round 3A playoff game on the road Friday night. Allen Moser led St. Paul’s with 34 points. Marty Jaisel scored 27 points to lead Woodbridge, which finished 12-4 in Coach Steve Scoggin’s first season.
