Portola High athletic department officials have begun the search for a new varsity baseball coach to replace Michael Nagamatsu, who has resigned.
“We are very early in this process,” said Portola Athletic Director Katherine Levensailor. “It is a critical coaching position and a priority for PHS to find the right fit. We hope to have a selection before the start of the school year but will not rush the process.
“Finding the right person whose philosophy aligns with PHS values and mission will take precedence over a speedy replacement.”
Nagamatsu led the Portola program in its first varsity season and before that led the Bulldogs’ junior varsity program in preparation for its inaugural season. Portola was 5-17 overall and 2-13 in the PCL this past season.
Nagamatsu could not be reached for comment.
Levensailor said it was a “big loss for Portola. Coach Nagamatsu has been critical in building the foundation of PHS baseball.”
