Members of Esperanza’s boys cross country team were among those who competed Saturday.
Some runners participated as a family and others represented their high schools and colleges, but the 1,500 who took part in the 28th annual Irvine Half Marathon and 5K took pride in competing in the event Saturday in Woodbridge.
“We did a great job today,” said Reed Piette, who was among runners competing from Esperanza High School. “Some of us didn’t have the greatest race but we kept pushing through knowing that we had teammates right on our back pushing us and motivating us all the way through.”
After heavy rains on Friday night, the weather cleared for the race on Saturday morning. Light ran fell toward the end of the half marathon.
