Foothill players earn All-CIF honors

Sean Higgins of Foothill fires a pitch in the semifinal round of the CIF playoffs.

Foothill baseball players Chad Castillo and Sean Higgins, who helped the Knights advance into the Division 1 championship game, received All-CIF Division 1 honors.

Castillo batted .414 with 41 hits, 10 doubles, a triple and 26 RBI.

Higgins batted .351 with 97 hits, 19 doubles, one home run and 24 RBI. On the mound, he had an 8-1 record and a 1.70 ERA. In 70 innings, he struck out 46 batters.

“Sean was also the Crestview League MVP and our team’s MVP,” said Coach Vince Brown.

In addition, Brown noted that the California Coaches Association, who selects the CIF first team, also released their own second team Southern California selection and two other Knights, Kyle Ashworth and Ryan Taurek, were selected.

Ashworth batted .359 with 33 hits, eight doubles, two triples, three home runs, 17 RBI, 30 runs scored and 32 walks.

Taurek batted .304 with 24 hits and six doubles. On the mound, he had an 8-4 record in 84 innings and a 1.83 ERA while striking out 70.

KNIGHT NOTES

  • Sean Higgins broke the old school (2009) record of 16 doubles with19 doubles.
  • Kyle Ashworth broke the old school (1998) record of 29 walks with 32.
  • Chad Castillo with 41 hits joins the top 4 all-time for hits in a season.
