Ex-Northwood QB Dan Selway back running camp starting Monday

Dan Selway scrambles while playing quarterback for Northwood High School.

Dan Selway is returning to Northwood High as the co-offensive coordinator of the varsity football team this year, sharing the duties with Pete Mitchell Jr. Selway said he will focus on the quarterbacks and the passing game. Pete Mitchell Jr. is the son of the head coach, Pete Mitchell.

Before focusing on Northwood, Selway is getting ready for the Dan Selway Youth Football Camp beginning Monday, July 30 at the Great Park. The camp runs through Wednesday, Aug. 1.

“The camp is looking great,” Selway said on Wednesday. “We have players from all over Southern California. Kids can still sign up, grades 2-8 and all abilities welcome.”

Selway was a talented quarterback at Northwood, where he graduated in 2005. He also played basketball for the Timberwolves.

“After retiring from playing three seasons professionally in Europe. (Finland, Germany and Sweden) I am now coaching quarterbacks and wide receivers here in the OC,” he said.

Selway also enjoys camps like the one he is planning in Irvine, his second of the summer.

His former coach at Northwood, Rick Curtis, believes that Selway has a future in coaching.

“He was a great player and then went on to Redlands and overseas,” Curtis said. “Dan was cerebral, he could pick things apart from the offensive side and he could read the defense. He had a good feel for the game. I’m sure he will be a great coach.”

The camp starts Monday at 9 a.m. and the cost is $150. For sign-up information please go to the link on the Dan Selway camp.

There will be prizes and players will receive T-shirts, Selway said.
