Corona del Mar’s baseball team scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning for a walk-off win to defeat Fullerton 4-3 Friday in game five of the Newport Elks Tournament and the Sea Kings Blake Butcher had a day to remember.
CDM went a perfect 5-0 in the tournament and improved its overall record to 7-2.
Butcher went 3 for 4 on the day with two home runs, the walk off single, all four RBI and pitched the seventh inning to record the win on the mound to go to 2-0 on the season.
Matt DeCrona started the game and went 5 1/3 innings allowing two runs while striking out five.
Sophomore Dennis Fitzpatrick got a one-out single in the bottom of the seventh to start the rally. Matt DeCrona and Ethan Watson both singled to load the bases up for Butcher. Butcher drove a single through the right side for the walk off hit.
“What a game for Blake,” said CdM Coach Kevin McCaffrey. “I’m so proud of him. Blake is a 4-year starter and is our leader. He put the team on his back and would not let us lose today. His stat line today is something you dream about: 3 for 4 with two home runs and a walk off single while also picking up the win on the mound.”
