Woodbridge and Beckman notch PCL wins, Marina and Fullerton also record victories

WOODBRIDGE 4, IRVINE 0: Woodbridge High’s baseball team remained atop the Pacific Coast League standings with the victory over Irvine (5-5) Wednesday at Irvine.

Woodbridge (8-1) was led by Lucky Ramanathan, who got the win. pitching the first five innings. He allowed three hits and struck out three to improve his record to 3-1.

Offensively, Connor Tallakson had two hits and an RBI for the Warriors, Jaden Hoang-Tien had two hits, Jack Bunnell had a double and an RBI, Sean McCance had a hit, two stolen bases and an RBI, Brandon Abernathy had a double, Luke DeVries had a single and Ryan Kato had an RBI.

“It was another good team win for us today,” said Woodbridge Coach Ryan Brucker. “Irvine’s starter pitched well and kept us off balance early. Our guys competed well offensively. Connor Tallakson continues to pick us up with his bat, and he got us on the board driving in a run with two outs in the third. All of our runs today came with two outs in the inning and that speaks to the competitive nature of our team.

“Lucky Ramanathan gave us another outstanding outing out of the bullpen to hold us steady. He’s been very steady in that role for us. It was another tough game, and we look forward to getting back after it Friday against University.”

BECKMAN 15, NORTHWOOD 2: The Patriots (8-2) started fast with nine runs in the first inning in the Pacific Coast League game at Northwood.

Jacob Hong started on the mound for Beckman, pitching the first two innings allowing two hits with three strikeouts.

Five other pitchers finished the game with an inning each, said Coach Kevin Lavalle.

Nick McLain led the offensive attack, going 2 for 2 with a double and a triple and four RBI. Paul Murrow was 2 for 3 with a double and four RBI.

“I was really encouraged by the performance,” Lavalle said. “It was the first time all year where we looked comfortable and confident at the plate.”

MARINA 16, WESTMINSTER 4: The Vikings completed a three-game series sweep of Westminster Wednesday. Seniors Gavin Langer and David Mashburn each hit their third homer of the young season, according to Marina Coach Toby Hess. 

Sophomore pitcher Tyler Wilson pitched three shutout innings out of the bullpen to earn the victory.

FULLERTON 9, ESPERANZA 2: The Indians were led by Matt Carbajal, who got the victory pitching four innings. He allowed three hits and struck out four. Matt Kim was 1 for 2 with two runs scored, a double and two RBI to lead the offensive attack for Fullerton.
