Whittier Christian High School’s football team brought home the fifth CIF title in school history, defeating Lynwood 20-7 Friday night in the Division 14 title game at Whittier College.
The Heralds. coached by Frank Manriquez, celebrated in front of their home fans. It’s the first CIF title for the program since 1990, according to Athletic Director Sam Paulescu.
Whittier Christian (10-4) was led by running back/defensive back Jake Martinez, who had 127 rushing yards with two touchdowns and one interception on defense, the AD said.
Quarterback Caleb Mer had one rushing touchdown, wide receiver Johnny Rojas had three catches, linebacker Julian Linares had an interception and defensive linemen Adam Olivas. Lorenzo Ybarra and Ian Roth, who each had quarterback sacks, also stood out.
