Santa Ana Unified School District’s board of education has unanimiously passed a recommendation from Superintendent Jerry Almendarez to close its schools for four weeks in response to concerns about the coronavirus.
The board discussed the matter on Friday, according to a spokesperson at Santa Ana Unified School District.
An E-mail will be sent out to parents today, officials said.
Schools will close for four weeks beginning Saturday and running through April 13. One of the weeks would be during spring break.
School season will not be extended, the superintendent told board members.
On Thursday, the district had said that schools would remain open and athletic events continued but without practices. High schools in the district are Santa Ana, Century, Godinez, Segerstrom, Saddleback and Santa Ana Valley.
It is not clear whether teams will be able to practice during the break.
Board members indicated the whole situation is very fluid.
This is breaking news and will be updated.
