University’s girls tennis team will compete in the CIF Open Division semifinals Wednesday against top-seeded Westlake High at Westlake.

The Trojans (13-1) defeated Harvard Westlake 12-6 to advance into the semifinal. The match featured the same two schools who played in the open division boys final last spring, noted Uni Coach John Kessler.

“Nour Khayat, a UCI commit, led the Trojans sweeping at second singles. Captain Megan Bee and Ann Gubin also swept at first doubles for Uni,” Kessler said.

“Ava Bocek and Sarah Chen won two of three sets at third doubles as did Kamya Nair and Anna Slavuk at second. doubles. The Uni girls, often overshadowed by the boys program, won the Pacific Coast league title for the fourth year in a row and the ninth time in the last 12 years. The girls have also made it to the CIF semifinal round, 10 of the last 12 years.”

Mira Costa and Peninsula will play in the other semifinal. The finals are on Friday.
