Segerstrom High School’s football team, coached by Joseph Tagaloa, competed in the 3rd annual 7 on 7 Tournament and Lineman Challenge at Lake Elsinore High School Saturday.
“This was our second time attending,” Tagaloa said. “We were one of two Orange County schools to compete, the other being Tesoro. We battled all day playing against some tough teams. In our pool play, we battled against Great Oak, Temecula Prep, and Riverside Poly.
“Once we got into bracket play, we faced a solid team in Temecula Valley, winners of their 7v7 tournament the weekend before. We battled but ultimately dropped a tough one.”
Segerstom also did well in the linemen competition, Tagaloa said.

“Our linemen came into the Lakeside tournament excited to compete after finishing in the top 10 at the Temecula Valley 7v7 and lineman competition,” he said. “They went through 10 various events competing against some quality programs in Tesoro, Temecula Valley and Lakeside to name a few.
“We went into the final event, tug of war, as the number two seed after scores were tabulated from the various events (tire flip, five man sled relay, single man sled relay, 8×200 relay, wheel barrel relay, 185 bench and power clean, obstacle course, medicine ball throw, weigh-ins).
“Our lineman defeated Tesoro, Temecula Valley, and Lakeside to earn the win in the tug of war, which was enough to put us in first place and be crowned the overall champions of the tournament.
“I am extremely proud of all of our guys for competing all day and more importantly for getting better. I am excited to see where we will be once August rolls around.”
