Eight boys basketball teams from Orange County will compete in the North vs. South Challenge at Tesoro High School in memory of Tim O’Brien on Thursday, Dec. 22 at Tesoro High School.
The one-day event is once again is held as a tribute to former Orange County high school coach Tim O’Brien who died in October 2020. Tesoro Coach Steve Garrett and O’Brien, a former Northwood High coach, were close friends.
O’Brien’s family attended the North-South challenge last year. The Northwood basketball team, while it was not competing in the event, attended some of the games last year.
Most of the match-ups involve North vs. South teams, Garrett said.
Ticket prices are $10 for adults and $5 for children.

3 p.m., Aliso Niguel vs. Portola
4:30 p.m., San Juan Hills vs. Beckman
6 p.m., Tesoro vs. Cypress
7:30 p.m., San Clemente vs. Foothill
