Long Beach defeated Costa Mesa 6-4 Sunday afternoon in the championship game of the Pony 14-and-under regional hosted by Costa Mesa Pony Sunday at TeWinkle Park in Costa Mesa.
Long Beach, which earlier in the day defeated Costa Mesa 6-5, earned the top seed and advances automatically to the zone championships Thursday, Aug. 4 in West Covina. It does not have to play in the super regional.
Costa Mesa, which played three games Sunday, was trying to force another game against undefeated Long Beach after the scheduled championship game.
Costa Mesa earned the top seed out of three other teams moving on to the super regionals beginning Thursday, July 28 in either Glendora or Simi Valley.
Heartwell and Cypress earned the third and fourth spots in the super regionals.

Long Beach 6, Costa Mesa 5
Heartwell 12, Cypress 2
Costa Mesa 3, Heartwell 0
Championship: Long Beach 6, Costa Mesa 4
