Beneath the dogpile Saturday night was Beckman outfielder Isaiah Kapur, who scored the winning run in the Patriots 2-1 victory over St. John Bosco in the CIF Division 3 final at Lake Elsinore Diamond Stadium.

Kapur somehow managed to elude the catcher’s tag and scored on a two-out single by Jagger Snitko in the eighth inning to lift the Patriots to the program’s second title.

“Two outs, I had faith in Jagger,” Kapur said Sunday during the Ryan Lemmon Showcase. “I saw him hit a ball hard and looked at Doug (third base coach Ireland) and I saw him sending me so I knew I was going all the way. I saw the catcher come up the line, I got down early and got my hand in on the plate.”

Kapur had a slight bruise on his hand as a result of the slide, but he wasn’t complaining Sunday.

“I think just getting down early was the main thing,” he said. “And help with our on deck guy telling me to get to my right.”

Kapur, like his teammates, was thrilled with the finish.

“It’s just a great way to end the year,” he said. “It’s a great way to go out. I’m happy that I could give something back to the program, back to my coach, Coach Lavalle, and give something to my teammates too.”

Kapur said the Patriots thought they could do something special.

“I think it was doing it for each other and after the first two games in the CIF (playoffs) we really realized how much we can be tougher than the other team and overcome adversity,” Kapur said. “Together we knew we could do anything.”

Kapur said he plans on attending Santa Ana College to play baseball next year.
