Laguna Hills girls basketball team raced to a 55-30 victory over host Orange in the championship game of the Orange Holiday Classic Monday. The game was held before the boys final between Irvine and El Toro.
Cameron McDermott scored 20 points and Ryan Stefani 14 points to lead Laguna Hills (14-3). Orange (9-6) was led by Alina Gomez and Audrey Macebo, who had seven points each.
“By winning the tournament, it proves we can compete with anybody, and it gives us confidence going into league play,” McDermott said.
“It’s great to win this tournament, but it all starts over with league play,” added Hawks Coach Jim Martin. “I expect a lot of tough battles. Our league is very even. We’ve had a number of down seasons, but this group has persevered and their hard work is paying off.”
