Woodbridge High School’s girls basketball team defeated Pacific Coast League rival Irvine 49-26 Friday night to capture the championship at the Savanna Holiday Classic.
Coach Keith Clarkson said that the Warriors’ Hana Watanabe and Maddie Yasui had 16 points each. Yasui had four 3-pointers and Teagan Burris had six points and nine rebounds.
Watanabe was named the tournament’s MVP. Woodbridge held a 32-11 lead at halftime.
“I thought we really stepped up our defense this week,” Clarkson said. “We have lost some tough games the past few weeks against some very good teams and this was a much needed win for us.
“There were times this week where Hana carried us on her shoulders. I am very happy with the development over the past few weeks.”
