It was Pack the Gym Night Thursday at University, but Woodbridge High’s boys basketball team shook off the homecourt edge and escaped with a 65-64 Pacific Coast League victory over the Trojans to even its league mark at 2-2.
Nygle Williams scored 18 points, Tom Baker had 10 points and Steven Mimpaya and Elijah Kim had eight points each to lead Woodbridge (4-16 overall).
University (7-12, 2-2) was led by Arjun Gill who scored 23 points and Kody Uyesugi who had 12 points.
“We led wire to wire and actually had a 16-point lead going into the fourth quarter,” said Woodbridge Coach John Halagan.
University made four three-pointers in the final quarter including the last one which banked in at the buzzer.
All the Pacific Coast League games were held Thursday instead of Friday because Friday is a school holiday for the Irvine Unified School District.
Beckman 60, Northwood 49: The Patriots (12-10, 4-0) remained atop the PCL standings with the victory. David Manea scored 16 points, Ethan Bozzo had 10 points and Jake Morrison nine points to lead Beckman.
Northwood (6-16, 1-3) was led by Shandon Sharifi who had 21 points and six 3-pointers. Amit Flint had 10 points for the Timberwolves.
Portola 65, Irvine 54: The Patriots won the PCL game at Portola. Mohsen Hashemi scored 21 points, Soma Doherty had 18 points and Josh Steinberg 10 points to lead Portola (11-11, 3-1).
Irvine (6-15, 0-4) was led by Taeyoung Kim with 15 points and Nicholas DeLuca with 13 points.
Century 61, Savanna 50: The Centurions remained atop the Orange League standings with a win at home. Rodrigo Ramirez scored 26 points, Tyler Thomas had 24 points and Luis Moran nine points to lead Century (13-8 overall).
