Fans attending the CIF Division 4 opening round baseball playoff game between Rancho Alamitos and Irvine Friday should get a better view of the action if a construction project on the Irvine baseball field is completed as scheduled.

Concrete sections slightly above the ground have been laid behind the backstop and the bleacher sections are scheduled to be placed on the sections which will improve the view.

Before, the bleacher sections have been on the ground.

“The line of sight is going to be much better, so that’s exciting,” Irvine Coach Gabriel Cota said Wednesday.

“We’re super excited about it. We worked hard with the administration and the higher ups in the district and we’re fortunate that they took it as a priority. The fact that we get to be on par with everybody is really exciting.”

Irvine is the No. 2 team from the Pacific Coast League. It’s the first time since 2013 that the Vaqueros have been in the playoffs.

“We’re super excited, it’s been a great week of practice and you expect that a little bit but these guys are fired up,” Cota said. ” They’re not exactly sure what to expect but they’re excited for it and they know they will be well supported.”

A talented Rancho Alamitos team, coached by Greg Pines, battled Loara for the championship of the Garden Grove League before finishing in second place.

It will be a meeting of two teams who have the nickname Vaqueros.

Irvine comes in with a 17-8 record while Rancho Alamitos is 15-8.
