University boys swim team captures title at PCL finals; Northwood takes second place

University’s boys swim team took first place in the Pacific Coast League finals Friday at the Woollett Aquatics Complex.

University took first place with 488 points. Northwood was second with 465 points, Beckman third with 338 points, Irvine fourth with 290, Woodbridge fifth with 219 and Portola sixth with 214.

University, coached by Ryan Vande Wydeven, got strong efforts from team captains Sidney Miller, Luke Venzlaff, Aaron Lee, Brian Lou and Caedon Ng, who won all of their individual events.

Lee won the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle, Lou won the 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke and Ng captured the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke.

Some other highlights from the meet:

University took first place in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1.33.99. Northwood finished second in a time of 1:36.75. The Timberwolves relay team consisted of Jeremy Mah, Conner Budka, Youssef Elseifi and Enoch Lai.

Ng of University took first in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:41.81. Felix Zhu of Northwood was second in 1:42.41.

Parker Macy of Irvine took first in the 200 yard individual medley in a time of 1:51.60. David Hue of Northwood was second in 1:54.26.

Wonhee Lee of University took first in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 20.82. Luke Venzlaff of University was second in 21.60.

Lou of University took first in the 100 yard butterfly in a time of 49.05. Northwood’s Hue was second in 50.95.

Lee of University captured first place in the 100 freestyle with a time of 45.85. Zhu of Northwood was second in 47.06.

Hunter Kroll of University took first in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:33.83. Jackson Bernstein of Woodbridge was second in 4:34.27.

University took first place in the 200 yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:25.97. Irvine was second in 1:27.19.

Ng of University took first place in the 100 backstroke with a time of 51.66. Kevin Lee of Beckman was second in 52.99.

University’s Lou took first in the 100 yard breaststroke in a time of 55.93. Parker Macy of Irvine was second in 57.47.

University took first place in the 400 yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:08.81.

The Trojans swimmers in the event were Luke Venzlaff, Hunter Kroll, Caedon Ng and Brian Lou.
