Woodbridge High’s boys volleyball team is gearing up for the next round of the CIF Division 3 playoffs.
The Warriors, who stunned top-seeded Murrieta Valley on Saturday in five sets, get another home match and will host Quartz Hill Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the semifinal round.
The winner of Wednesday’s match moves on to the finals Saturday at Cerritos College against the winner of the Peninsula-Kennedy match.
It’s been quite a season for Woodbridge, which is making its first appearance in the CIF playoffs since 2010, according to Coach Alan Ho.
Quartz Hill advanced to the semifinals with victories over Agoura (3-0), Crescenta Valley (3-1) and Cypress (3-1).
“When you get to this point in the tournament, you know everyone is really good,” Ho said Monday.
“We just hope that we can come out on game night and play as well as we can and give ourselves a chance. The draw really worked out well for us, being able to be at home for three matches in a row is obviously great and having our home fans there to support us gave our guys a lift.”
Woodbridge won Saturday’s match by scores of 25-21, 18-25, 27-25, 19-25, 15-10. Ben Montplaisir had 23 kills and Mani Hosseini 16 kills to lead the Warriors, who finished second in the Pacific Coast League.
