Three OC teams earn top seeds in CIF boys volleyball playoffs starting this week

Beckman (Division 2), Bolsa Grande (Division 4) and Tarbut V’ Torah (Division 9) earned top seeds in the CIF boys volleyball playoffs that begin on Tuesday and Wednesday.

CIF officials said that 252 teams are entered in the playoffs. The championships will be Thursday, May 14; Friday May 15, and Saturday, May 16. The Division 1 final will be held at Cerritos College with locations for the other finals to be determined after May 9.

Sunset League champion Huntington Beach (22-4) is seeded fourth in Division 1 and has a bye in the opening round on Wednesday. Top seeds in the division are Mira Costa, Redondo Union and Loyola.

Beckman, the South Coast League No. 3 team, opens the Divsion 2 playoffs Tuesday. The Patriots (22-10) will host Orange Lutheran, a Trinity League at-large team Tuesday at 6 p.m. Orange Lutheran is 21-10.

Edison (17-14) is seeded No. 2 in Division 2 and will host Beaumont Tuesday at 6 p.m. Camarillo (26-4) is No. 3 and Pacific Coast League champion St. Margaret’s (23-4) is seeded fourth and will host Freeway League No. 2 team Cypress Tuesday.

South Coast at-large entry Mission Viejo (22-11) is seeded third in Division 3 and will host Paloma Valley Wednesday.

Bolsa Grande, the Coast League champion, opens the Division 4 playoffs Tuesday at home against Quartz Hill. Crestview League runner-up Sunny Hills (18-14) is seeded third in the division and will host Santa Monica Tuesday.

Empire League runner-up Calvary Chapel (17-12) is seeded second in Division 6 and will host Citrus Hill Tuesday.

Coast League runner-up Loara (11-15) is seeded second in Division 7 and will host Gabrielino Wednesday.

Tarbut V’ Torah, the Academy League champion, hosts Calvary Baptist Wednesday at 6 p.m. in Division 9.
