Estancia High School outfielder-catcher Sawyer Atkinson, who finished as the Eagles all-time career record holder in hits with 132, has signed with University of Mary in North Dakota, according to former Coach Nate Goellrich.
Atkinson set the single season hits record in 2025 with 50 hits and in his senior season he hit .398 with 28 runs scored, 15 RBI, nine doubles, a triple and two home runs.
“He was a four-year varsity letterman and has maintained a 4.0 GPA,” said Goellrich, who recently resigned as head coach. “He was also selected and participated in the North vs South All-Star Game. He was the 2025 CIF Player of the Year for Division 6 in 2025 {when Estancia won the CIF title} and was first team All-CIF in Division 6 this season.
“Sawyer was a pleasure to coach these past four years. He was a natural leader of our team these past four years. He absolutely loves to play the game and is always learning on how to improve. He has a great work ethic and is set for a great career at the next level.
“He was a huge part of our CIF championship team in 2025, both with his bat and his defense behind the plate. He was also great in the classroom with a 4.00 GPA and a part of our team this year that was the CIF academic award winner.”
Goellrich is continuing as Estancia’s athletic director.
