“It was great to see us jump out of the gate ready to go,” said Irvine Coach Gabriel Cota. “Our guys knew Portola is well coached so we were going to have to respect the game and play well to beat them.

“Leonard Memon set the tone on the mound. Our pitchers have been outstanding with four straight shutouts. We were happy to be able to get a lot of our guys in the game today.”

Irvine (15-8, 9-4) was led offensively by Bubba Filia, who was 2 for 4 with a double, triple, two RBI and a run scored. Jack Redington was 1 for 2 with two RBI and a run scored and JC Allen was 1 for 2 with two RBI and two runs scored.

Memon went the first four innings, striking out six and allowing two hits.

Portola fell to 4-16 overall and 1-12 in PCL play.
