Fullerton College twice built 21-point leads but each time a resilient Golden West team rallied to challenge only to ultimately fall short 38-33 in the teams’ season-opening football game at Yorba Linda High School Saturday.

Trailing 38-17 midway through the third quarter, Golden West took advantage of Fullerton turnovers to score twice in the fourth quarter to move within a touchdown before the Hornet defense came up with a big stop and the offense ran off the final 3:34, taking a team safety as time ran out for the final score.
