Irvine High School senior Kota Seshimo, a highly sought-after college prospect, announced he has committed to play Division 1 football for Fresno State.
The 6-5, 305-pound Seshimo will play offensive tackle and be a noseguard on defense this season for the Vaqueros, according to Irvine Coach Tom Ricci.
“I’m incredibly blessed and grateful for the opportunity to continue my football career at Fresno State,” the lineman told OC Sports Zone.
“Committing there is an amazing feeling, and I’m excited for what’s ahead. I wouldn’t be in this position without the support of the entire Irvine coaching staff. I especially want to thank Head Coach Ricci and my offensive line coach Coach Done for believing in me, pushing me every day, and helping me grow both as a player and as a person.
“They developed me into a player who can compete at the next level. I also want to thank our strength and conditioning coach Coach Jaimez. His workouts made me stronger, more explosive, and more athletic, and they played a huge role in preparing me for this opportunity.
“I’m grateful for everyone who has been part of my journey, and I’m excited to represent Fresno State and get to work.”
Ricci, the head coach, said Seshimo, who was all-CIF and all-league, has been dedicated.
“He’s been working his tail off the past year,” Ricci said. “He’s benching 320 and squaring 520. We’ve had over 18 Division 1 programs come down to Irvine to find him. He’s received multiple Division 1 offers, but ultimately decided on Fresno. Everyone comments on how good his feet are for a guy who weighs over 300 pounds. He’s also a fantastic individual. They are going to love him there.”
