Crean Lutheran football players host annual ‘mom’s huddle,’ prepare for opener

Crean Lutheran’s football players and coaches have been busy getting ready for the team’s season opener on Friday, Aug. 21 againsty Loyola at home.

Among the activities was the annual “Mom’s Huddle” on campus.

“We taught the moms plays, had a punt, pass and kick competition along with the senior moms tackling their boys on to our crash pad,” said Coach Rick Curtis. “We had a great turnout with over 60 moms and even some grandmas in attendance. 

“We followed it up with a luncheon and discussed some the details of what it takes to run a football program along with some tips on how to take care of the equipment and safety precautions we take for the players.”

Next up for the Saints is a scrimmage on Thursday, Aug. 13 at home vs. Los Alamitos. The varsity scrimmage is at 6:30 p.m. which follows the frosh/soph scrimmage at 5 p.m. and the JV scrimmage at 5:45 p.m. 

On Saturday, Aug. 15, the program will host is annual barbecue and blessing from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., according to Curtis. Players will be introduced and there will be an exhibition football game with the spirit squad competing and the senior players coaching.

The Saints are also preparing for a game on Friday, Aug. 28 at Mira Costa and Friday, Sept. 4 at home vs. JSerra.
